Candice Handy

Candice Handy, Author of FINDING VOICE

Candice Handy is the founder of Cincinnati Black Theatre Artist Collective and Education Director at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. Candice is a Cincinnati based and regional actor, director, and teaching artist. Ms. Handy holds a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance with a focus on African American Theatre Aesthetics. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Broadcast Communications from Alabama State University and an Acting Certification from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy Studio Program NYC.

Some of Candice’s favorite career opportunities include her role as Wiletta Mayer in Alice Childress’ Trouble in Mind, produced at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, where she also directed Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. She is proud to be the PROJECT38 Festival Coordinator at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company; a program that serves more than 40 schools in and around the Cincinnati and greater Kentucky area providing students with free access to arts education. Ms. Handy was a panelist at the 2023 Annual Shakespeare Theatre Association Conference, where she presented on the topic, “Decentralizing Leadership in Theatre Education.” Candice is so grateful for the opportunity to have been the Creative Director for the Educational Theatre Association project, Finding Voice: New Works for Young Theatre Artists of Color. Candice thanks God, her family, and friends for their unwavering support throughout the course of her career.
